We live in a world in which social media has become increasingly important in our day to day lives. With the rise of (especially) Instagram has come a huge boom of influencer and pseudo-photographers who just seem to have these perfect lives traveling around the world and taking ravishing pictures of unimaginable places. Though at times it might be true, it often comes down to just taking the right pictures.
Whether it be a regular beach or maybe even just a plain old bar, influencers always seem to manage taking picture in just the right way. You yourself may feel like no matter how beautiful your surroundings are, you can’t seem to make the shots look just as nice. It turns out there are some tricks for getting amazing travel photos. We unravel the hidden secrets so that you too can take the best insta-worthy pictures.
Wake up as early as possible
We know it might be a pain in the backside waking up real early when on vacation. However, if you want something you’re going to have to sacrifice something for it. Because just like you probably don’t feel like having an early rise, most tourists will feel the same way.
You might no believe it unless you’ve actually seen it, but the most instragameable places to take pictures are always packed with people. You will most likely have to wait in line for maybe even hours just to take the right picture. Avoid this by waking up early. Plus, you’ll have no one interfering in the picture itself, as most people will probably still be asleep.
In addition, early mornings have this beautiful light that will create the most impressive pictures. Blurry, dark pictures are no good, which is why early morning soft natural lighting is the best when taking pictures, especially if you’re trying to capture a beach or a landscape.
Everything blue
This tip seems crazy, but it really is true. Apparently, pictures that contain a lot of blue get more likes on Instagram than pictures with other tones. In fact, pictures filled with blue tones seem to get 24% more likes than pictures with orange and red tones, according to Curalate. This probably happens because the colour blue makes us feel calm and peaceful, so we tend to find these types of pictures more appealing, as opposed to orange and red pictures, which make us feel agitated.
Focus on your surroundings
What’s most important in travel pictures is usually the landscapes and beautiful destinations you find yourself in, which is why it’s essential you put focus on this in particular. Try to capture the beauty of it instead of focusing on yourself. This doesn’t mean you can’t be in the picture, just try to think of how you can use your body to direct the viewers eye towards the scenery.
Forget about filters
We are often tempted to throw in a filter whenever we want to upload a picture. However, it is probably better to go without one, as it might make it look too fake and throw people off. The picture might end up looking overexposed and just straight up dishonest, which is something we really wouldn’t want.
Instead of adding a filter over the photo, try to play a bit with the settings: change the brightness, the contrast, or any other adjustment you wish to make. This will create a much more natural image and you’ll see you’ll be happier with the end result.
